...and I hate to say it, I honestly would trade my Sportwagen TDI for it :(
It seriously was that good!
My expression the whole test drive:

if you were wondering what it looked like

Keep dat gas mileage!

boost is a helluva drug

I’ve been averaging only 34 MPG lately with 75% highway driving :(
I think something is clogged *cough* DPF *cough*

Well, my jetta also has a turbo... but the diesel seems much more anemic (maybe because my car weighs around 500lbs more than a GTI?)
![]() 04/30/2015 at 17:42 |

Of course you would. If you said you would rather keep your wagon I would be concerned.
![]() 04/30/2015 at 17:44 |

Well, I love my wagon though :( it is the car I learned to drive in
however, GTIs are kind of overpriced IMO and I would rather take the fox body mustang I’m rebuilding over the summer

The grass really is greener on the other side. My Golf R’s 22.5mpg always makes me reconsider something with better mileage (TDI) or something more powerful that gets the same mileage (all the V8’s and turbo sixes)
But then I fling it into a sweeping series of bends and give it full boost and forget what I was complaining about.

Get a carmax one if the warranty is low enough cost. They like to have “sudden, random issues” pop up at 100k. Especially if the previous owner was bad about things like oilchanges and always using premium......My friend had a MkV whose wheels basically fell off at 100k because he would routinely go somewhere around 11-12k on an oil change and used only the finest in 87 octane for the first 40k miles or so......
![]() 04/30/2015 at 18:09 |

Overpriced? You get A LOT with that car! Dope motor, fuel economy, righteous cockpit, and as you now know, it’ll boogie.... And I also heard (possibly a tall-tale, but...) that VW actually under prices them since the GTI is kind of a ‘halo’ car for them.. To the tune of losing $4K per GTI....
![]() 04/30/2015 at 18:19 |
|
LOL that might be the problem... I would get 91 octane (highest available around here) and change the oil every 10k miles too
Them falling apart and having issues is the reason I didn’t even bother looking into buying it

This was a 2012... dealer had the price on the windshield as $21999. For a 3 year old car with 42k miles? No thanks.
Now, a new one? For $25k why the hell not?
Also... you can get a new one for almost the price of the used one.

Am I crazy for <4k mile oil changes in my non tracked (since college) WRX?
![]() 04/30/2015 at 19:08 |

synthetic or non synthetic oil?
![]() 04/30/2015 at 19:18 |

Synthetic, regretted not including that right as I hit enter
![]() 04/30/2015 at 20:37 |

Then yeah, you might be a bit crazy. But a bit of paranoia is good sometimes... oil is cheaper than a new engine :P

Delete that shit

I will eventually... I have no money right now and the car runs fine

It's approaching OCD levels and my gf hates me ecologically for it

DO EET. Seriously. Get the carmax warranty and that car for as close to 20k as you can. Any more than that and the new GTIs make too much sense. But the warranty means you won’t be out when the little niggles appear and you’re more likely to fix them before they become major problems.

Uh, i have no money... and I’m not trading in my Jetta because it is now paid off! (as of a week ago)
![]() 05/01/2015 at 07:45 |

Cant... parents want to keep the TDI and we just paid it off.
Also, I plan on fixing that Mustang this summer... mmm 275 WHP and 350 WTQ sounds nice!

Ahhhhh! I thought you meant GTI’s pricing in general was outrageous.... But yeah, I’d have to agree in regards to this one... $22K for one with 42k miles is totes crack pipe....
![]() 05/01/2015 at 17:10 |
|
Especially when you can get a new one for that kind of money... or a CarMax one with 50k miles and a warranty for $18k

A guy on CL was selling a 2009 with a rebuilt title for $10.5k... hail damage was fixed and it looked GREAT
Instead I bought a set of OEM 17” GTI Detroits from him
![]() 05/01/2015 at 18:02 |

Oh, okay... yeah I like the GTI, but insurance is REALLY expensive...
![]() 05/01/2015 at 18:03 |

one of the reasons why the GLI is annoying...
it's too dam costly!

Just saw your other post regarding the detroits— gotta say, they look sick on your sportwagen... Nice score!
